Organizing a Rally across Russia, Kazakhstan and China, René Metge was dreaming about it. It is now a reality who will start on June 12, 2008 in Saint-Pétersburg, to end in Beijing on June 28. Pairing with Gilles Martineau and with the help of IEC In Sports and Sportfive, the former Dakar and Le Mans winner made his mission a success and this exceptional Rally is now for real.

Exceptional, because the competitors will live an unique adventure, the event of a lifetime. The Rally will cross some lands who used to be forbidden, they’re now more open to the world. It’s the perfect occasion to discover those countries with so many differences, the breathtaking landscapes, and those cultures who will bring you so much.

A dream route…

You will experience the white nights of Saint-Pétersburg, the Ural plains then you will pass by
the wonderful Kazakh Steppe, before entering the People's Republic of China by the Xinjiang Region, and you will arrive in Beijing a few weeks before the Olympic Games.

René Metge has always been very attached to some fondamental values and principles : this is a human adventure where discovering and sharing must prevail. The Organisation shares these values and wants to provide an extraordinary adventure to the competitors.
You will be lucky to experience the wild bivouacs, the diversified route for all the pilots, and several categories of vehicles, off-road (or not), Grand Tourer, Trails…will allow anyone to participate.

Central Europe Rally

The Central Europe Rally, first ever competition of the "Dakar Series", is an off-road rally open to bikes, quad-bikes, cars and trucks. As for all races under the "Dakar Series" label, it has the authority to accommodate the sport's elite drivers, as well as amateurs wishing to pit themselves against a demanding course.
7 days of competition

Following a short stay in Budapest, where the teams will be called for technical and administrative checks, on 19 April, then a parade in town, the following day, the competitors will drive towards Romania, where the first competitive special section will be run.
The competition's programme is tough: drivers will be timed each day in one or two competitive special sections, the distance of which is between 60 and 170 km. In Romania, technical ability will be most challenged, on a route sometimes cut by valleys
and winding. In Hungary, the parts of the race in forest or in the plains will also demand a keen sense of trajectory. Other parts will invite drivers to push their vehicles to their maximum speeds.
At the finish, at Lake Balaton, after 3,000 km of route, 1,500 km of which comprising timed sections, competitors will be invited to a prize-giving gala.

The 2009 Dakar rally : on the tracks of South America

Patrice Clerc, President of Amaury Sport Organisation and Etienne Lavigne, Director of the Dakar, have announced that the 2009 Dakar would take place in Argentina and Chile from the 3rd to the 18th of January. They promise an amazing course, a 9000 km loop including 6000 of specials between Buenos Aires, Valparaiso and Buenos Aires. The Dakar rally, the legendary event of the off-road rally discipline, will for the first time go to South America in 2009.

During the last thirty years, the race has forged itself a legendary reputation on the African territory that helped it grow and become one of the major events of the international calendar. The Dakar will know how to keep and maintain values and a unique spirit. A first choice sporting competition that mixes great champions and amateurs, the event has become extremely international throughout the years, uniting up to 52 different nationalities. Added to that, the Dakar gathers a state of spirit driven by a quest for adventure, open-mindedness and discovery. A nomadic event by excellence with 21 African countries visited during its history, it has the vocation to explore the deserts of the World and A.S.O. studies the possibility for other territories to welcome the Dakar.

While keeping an undamaged challenge, the 2009 edition has accepted the invitation of Argentina and Chile, countries with which A.S.O. was in contact for several years.

The organisers were seduced by the discovery of territories where navigation, sand, and crossings will be on the menu. Argentina and Chile gather all the ingredients for a fantastic Dakar both in terms of the level of the varied topography and the splendour of the landscapes or through its infrastructures. The enthusiasm launched by the prospect of welcoming the event promises a great Dakar.

The registrations for this new challenge will start on the 15th of May 2008. The competitors registered for the 2008 edition will have priority and will benefit during a month from a similar tariff as this year’s one.
